Topic: Daily backups for your important data

Daily backups - For each day of the work week I've created a backup folder on my file server. I backup each day to a different folder and thus have 4 earlier backups available to me. This way, if I happen to lose an important document but don't realize it for a couple of days, I have not overwritten it and can still locate it in an earlier backup folder...

Put any of your QuicKeys shortcuts on timers so they can work even if you aren't there... schedule a system back-up to occur at 2 a.m. when you’re snug in bed!

Topic: Remap your keyboard on a per-application basis

"I enjoy listening to PDF books on my computer while doing clerical tasks, so I use QuicKeys to turn the narrative on and off using single-stroke function keys instead of the three-key combinations that would otherwise be required."

"If you use a function in an application frequently, but it has a hot key that is either hard to remember or is different from other applications you use, reassign a universal hot key that performs that function in all of your programs."

"I use a macro program (such as QuicKeys) to define a key on the number pad for the 'p' in dimensions set in picas and points. One suggestion was to remap "=" to "p" making it operative in just the apps that need it."

QuicKeys is great for remapping annoying or hard-to-remember key combinations!

Topic: Control iTunes with the iTunes Plugin

Add power and functionally to QuicKeys for Windows with the new iTunes Plug-in. Free to registered users of QuicKeys for Windows 2.5 (requires Windows XP!), the iTunes Plug-in consists of 8 different sets of actions that allow you to automate iTunes. For more information or to download this plug-in, head on over to the QuicKeys for Windows product pages located here.

The iTunes plug-in offers dozens of new ways to directly communicate with and control iTunes from QuicKeys, but it doesn't stop there. This plug-in is also user-extensible; you can write your own scripts to add to this plug-in if you know a scripting language and you're not afraid to get your hands dirty. Here's an example script that let's you set the play count of the current song. This is useful for iTunes Smart Playlists which can make use of such song data as your star-rating and the number of times it's been played.

Topic: Activate/Press buttons without touching your mouse

Use keyboard hot keys to press buttons on your screen. When you quit an application that has an open, unsaved document the system will put up a dialog window asking you if you want to Save, Don't Save, or Cancel. In cases where you don't want to save the document this shortcut will allow you to press a hot key to simulate clicking on the Don't Save button...

Topic: Launch an application and prep it for use

I want to launch my text editor in Plain Text mode sometimes, but in Rich Text Mode other times. By building two similar shortcuts, QuicKeys can automatically launch it for me in the mode I desire...

Topic: Reposition Windows with QuicKeys

I use 4 QuicKeys sequences to move the active windows to the right place:
- one moves the window to half top of the screen
- one moves the window to half bottom of the screen
- one moves the window to the left of the screen
- one moves the window to the right of the screen
and resize those windows to the right size.

My windows are always set properly, and never overlap.

Topic: Don't drive and compute without QuicKeys!

" I downloaded a 30 day trial version of QuicKeys yesterday in the hope of creating single-key shortcuts for MS Streets & Trips."
...
"These are the original Microsoft keyboard shortcuts and they require up to 4 (four) keystrokes. That is not an easy task while driving." (more)

Topic: Use QuicKeys Batch Processor to change multiple documents

QuicKeys is great for automating complex time-consuming tasks, but it is also adept at performing simple tasks on numerous files. Rather than manually opening 150 files and running the same short sequence on each of them, you might consider using the Batch Processor.

The Batch Processor applies a sequence of actions on a group of files. If you need to perform the same actions on multiple files, you can create a Batch Processor Action to automate the process. For example, you can convert a group of graphics files from BMP to GIF format, or automatically change the margins and font size of multiple documents with a single Action. (more)
